Formaldehyde test

Formaldehyde detection refers to the quantitative detection of formaldehyde in automotive interior, household materials, building materials, paints, inks, spices and other product materials through specific methods or instruments. Formaldehyde has a strong stimulating effect on human skin and can cause skin eczema and systemic allergy. The World Health Organization has identified formaldehyde as a class of carcinogens.
The new car has many accessories, mixed with leather smell, paint smell, plastic smell, rubber smell, adhesive smell, etc. If the formaldehyde content in the vehicle environment exceeds the standard, it will lead to throat discomfort, cough, dry eyes, tears, dizziness and headache.
The health hazards of formaldehyde mainly include the following aspects:
1. Irritation to skin and mucous membrane. Formaldehyde is a protoplasm toxic substance, which can combine with protein. When inhaled in high concentration, it will cause serious irritation and edema of respiratory tract, eye irritation and headache.
2. Sensitization: direct skin contact with formaldehyde can cause allergic dermatitis, stain and necrosis. Inhalation of high concentration formaldehyde can induce bronchial asthma.
3. Mutagenicity: high concentration formaldehyde is also a genotoxic substance. Nasopharyngeal tumors can be caused by high concentration inhalation in laboratory animals.
5. Plant derived formaldehyde removal, plant derived air purification and spraying atomized terpenoids have a wide range of biological activities, but the traditional production mode relying on plants is one of the bottlenecks of popularization and application. Adopting synthetic biology strategy to create microbial "cell factory" is expected to provide advanced technology for low-cost and sustainable supply of plant derived terpenoids. Tanshinone is the main fat soluble active component of traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza, which belongs to rosin alkanes and norditerpenes. The research group cooperated with researcher Huang Luqi of the traditional Chinese medicine resource center of the Academy of traditional Chinese medicine to construct a yeast engineering strain with high yield of tanshinone synthesis precursor secondary tanshinone diene (J. am. Chem. SOC., 2012, 134 (6): 3234).
